NEWS AND EVENTS
September 5, 2009:
Our partner in Uganda, the Friends in Need Integrated Development Project, began Phase II of the
Livestock for Livelihoods project (started in August 2008). In Phase I, 25 families were given 3
goats each. After a productive year—in which some families doubled the size of their
herds—FINIDP has selected 22 new families to receive 25 offspring of the original goats.
Each new family will be trained in goat handling, and the sharing cycle will continue.

Alliance Africa funded the Adopt-a-Student Program to provide comprehensive educational support,
including tuition, uniforms, school supplies, and emergency health care, to 10 students orphaned by
AIDS and other causes. Two partner organizations, Hope for Africa and the Friends in Need Integrated
Development Project, have joined with Alliance Africa to initiate this program. Hope for Africa,
a student organization at the University of Mississippi, will match American donors with orphaned
children in Uganda to facilitate correspondence. FINIDP will select and work with the students to
ensure that they receive a high-quality education and the support they need.
August 7, 2008:
Alliance Africa funded the Livestock for Livelihoods Project in collaboration with the Friends in Need
Integrated Development Project (FINIDP) in Mukono, Uganda. After assessing community needs and screening
potential beneficiaries, FINIDP selected 25 families for entry into the program. Each family receives
three goats, which they will raise for milk, butter, and cheese to sell at the market or put food on
their table. At a later stage of the project, these families will share offspring with other needy
families in the community so that the cycle of giving continues.
