Support for Communities
We believe in a solid, grassroots approach to development. Our focus is on local, community-based groups who have a people-based approach to development, who work closely with their community to determine needs—and meet them.

Sustainable Solutions
We believe that any long-term and effective change must be sustainable. Alliance Africa supports solutions that are not just temporary but lasting. We aim to build local capacity and help communities become self-sustaining and self-sufficient.

Compassion and Solidarity
We aim to show compassion toward those in need. In doing so, we seek to work closely and collaboratively with community leaders in Africa. We hope that our support will be not merely an expression of charity, but a sign of solidarity.

Aim to Empower, Not Impose
We aim not to impose our ideas upon the people we support, but rather to empower local leaders to achieve a shared vision. We support community-based organizations who are responsible, accountable, and sustainable, groups who are already doing good work but who are in need of support to continue. We will offer ideas and ensure that projects are efficient and effective, but lasting change can come only when all of us are invested in the success and future of development.

Respect for Diversity
We recognize that Africa is not homogeneous but is compromised of diverse countries, communities, and cultures. We have great respect for this diversity and seek to honor it by respecting local customs, being sensitive to cultural differences, and increasing understanding of particular cultures and communities. Mutual understanding and respect are essential to solidarity and success.

Your Donation Counts
Unlike many large non-profits with large administrative overhead costs, we work efficiently to make your donation count. Alliance Africa has no paid staff and relies heavily upon volunteers. Moreover, all of the administrative costs of Alliance Africa are covered by the Board of Directors, or by donors who have explicitly agreed to cover these costs. So, your generosity—all of it—goes to support our partners in Africa.

Cooperation, Not Competition
We do not wish to compete with other non-profit organizations working in Africa. Rather, we hope that our distinctive focus will complement the missions of these and other humanitarian groups.

Responsible and Responsive, Efficient and Effective
A focus on sustainable development encourages responsibility and cooperation. We aim to be responsive to local communities in Africa, and in turn, we expect that community organizations will use our funds responsibly. Through oversight and evaluation, we strive to hold ourselves and others accountable to guarantee that all funds are used efficiently and effectively.
